My journey with Key 3 Media started a little under a year ago. A lot has happened in that time! Oh, I’m Alice by the way… if you didn’t already know. I’m a (soon to be) university student and freelance blogger for Key 3 Media. Here’s a brief summary of my time with the team and what I’ve been getting up to over the summer.
How it all started
Way back in the October half-term of 2017, I visited the Key 3 Media office for the first time. It was for a week of work experience where I learnt an extraordinary number of things. I had always enjoyed writing, but the team taught me how to write for businesses – that included learning the basics of key-wording, SEO, call to actions, suitable sentence lengths, the list goes on. Although it wasn’t all about writing. I also got stuck in with social media design work, learning about Google Ads and meeting clients.
What came next
It turns out though, that I wasn’t the only one benefiting from work experience. The team quite liked how I wrote, so asked if I wouldn’t mind doing a bit of freelance blogging. So, as I went through college I continued to write blogs on the side. Once exams were over though, I was faced with plenty of spare time, so I asked if Key 3 Media needed any extra help over the summer. Luckily for me, they said yes.
How I spent my summer
Between podcasting, writing newsletters and brochures, designing images for social media and, of course more blogging – I’ve done my fair share of marketing work this summer. I’ve learnt so much over the last few months about the world of marketing, however, until last week, my future still seemed unclear.
I had taken my exams but didn’t actually know whether I had got into university yet! Finally, results day rolled around and with the team’s support behind me, I went to pick up my results… It turns out I got A*AA in English Language, Politics and Media. That means, for the next three years, you’ll be able to find me at The University of Sheffield studying journalism. I couldn’t be happier!
What does that mean for my future with Key 3 Media?
Although I will no longer be in the office once a week, I’m still going to be freelance copywriting for Key 3 Media whilst I’m at university. I’m even going to be branching out into other areas of work for them too!
The encouragement the team have given me over the last year has given me such a confidence boost. I’m going off to university with more faith in my own abilities. I know I’ve still got plenty to learn but, when I reflect on what I knew a year ago – I’ve come on leaps and bounds. This all started because of how willing Key 3 Media were to take me on for work experience. I can’t quite believe how it has all worked out!
If you’re contemplating contacting Key 3 Media to ask about work experience, please don’t hesitate. My week with the team led to great things for me. I can’t praise them enough!
